I remember in 2012, second year, in a lecture on how heart pumping works - all the channels that have to fire in sync and everything that has to happen for each pump to work, for your entire life. It was oddly unsettling to think of how reliant I am on something that complex working perfectly.
It’s equally unsettling reading about all the complexities a database hides from you and abstracts away, and how they can go wrong despite those abstractions. I basically think of databases as being perfect, and don’t like to think of all the things they have to do to work correctly every time.
