Stephen King, 2011

fiction
10/10

I had been worried that the narrative weight of the book would fall on ‘Can he save Kennedy’ which seemed unappealing as a non-American with no particular emotional investment in that part of American history. But I found myself caught up in the story anyway - especially the cosy Jodie part of the book. It really captures that feeling of finding yourself belonging somewhere when you never expected to.

I was also really hoping the Cuban Missile Crisis would form an important part of the story, and it did.

And the time travel aspect is a variant I haven’t come across before, and I loved it too.

I wanted a happy ending though. Overall this is my favourite fiction book for a long time.
